Embracing Sustainable Economy Principles
We’re moving beyond traditional linear models by designing out waste and keeping materials in use for longer. Sustainability sits at the core of how we create smarter, future-ready solutions.
Unlike the traditional ‘take-make-waste’ model, the sustainable economy keeps materials in use for longer, through repair, reuse, and recycling. It’s all about reducing waste and using resources more efficiently.
For ProGrid, that means designing products and processes that support sustainability, lower environmental impact, and deliver long-term value.
Shifting to a sustainable economy is key to long-term progress, delivering clear environmental, economic, and social benefits.
Environmentally, it cuts down on waste, lowers emissions, and protects natural resources, leading to cleaner air, water, and ecosystems.
Economically, it reduces costs by reusing materials, optimising supply chains, and driving innovation in product design and efficiency.
Socially, it supports healthier communities and local economies through better waste management, greener infrastructure, and job creation.
By designing out waste and keeping materials in use, we help build a more resilient and sustainable future, for everyone.
ProGrid and Sustainable Economy
The UK’s growing infrastructure needs are placing pressure on natural resources. At ProGrid, we believe we have a responsibility to meet demand sustainably, by reducing waste and making better use of materials across the full value chain.
We’re committed to sustainable thinking in everything we do, from reusing and recycling materials in production to reducing both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
Our 2025 Goals
- Increase recycled and reclaimed material volumes from 1.2 to 3 million tonnes.
- Cut waste to landfill to zero.
- Launch a sustainability action network to drive best practice.
Looking Ahead
- Boost reclaimed materials and put a full sourcing strategy in place.
- Develop a plan to reuse materials that would otherwise end up as waste.
Driving Change Through Sustainable Construction
We’re rethinking traditional building practices, using recycled materials, reducing waste, and creating smarter ways to build. From reusing construction demolition materials to cutting carbon through innovative products and processes, we’re working toward a more sustainable built environment at every stage.

Advancing Sustainable Construction
At ProGrid, we’re committed to transforming the way we build, reducing waste and conserving resources through smarter, sustainable construction practices.
Through our eco programme, we repurpose materials from demolition into high-quality products, cutting emissions without compromising performance.
Key Benefits
- Minimises environmental impact by reusing materials in new construction.
- Reduces CO₂ emissions through sustainable resource use.
- Supports sustainable economy goals by closing the loop on material waste.
Global Awareness for Circular Building
Our “Go Circular” campaign raises global awareness around circular construction and sustainable living. In 2023, the team joined The Ocean Race, highlighting our commitment to net zero.
As they sail across the globe, they collect environmental data—from remote waters and skies—to support global weather forecasting and climate science.

Recovering Marine Waste with Solar Innovation
In partnership with One Earth One Ocean, we support the Circular Explorer—a solar-powered catamaran that recovers marine plastic from oceans and rivers.
Through educational outreach, the initiative empowers local communities and inspires the next generation of climate leaders and marine scientists.
